Get Through Winter Safely

Posted on January 14th, 2016 | No Comments »

After a mild start to Winter, Mother Nature has reminded us that cold Wisconsin temperatures are alive and well.

Be sure to have an emergency kit and a blanket in your vehicle in case of car trouble. Also, be sure to check your battery. Cold weather can harm battery performance, so be sure that you come in to have yours checked for optimal performance.

Finally, a broken belt today can mean big trouble for your engine tomorrow. Serpentine belts are used on most engines to turn the water pump, alternator, power steering, and air-conditioning compressor. If a belt snaps, you may be stranded. Most serpentine and timing belts should be replaced every 60,000-90,000 miles, or based on the interval specific in your owner’s manual.

How are your tires handling the winter?

Tire pressure drops in cold weather, reducing traction and making your car vulnerable on icy or slick roads. Get yours checked to make sure they’re safe for the road.

If your tires are worn and in need of replacement, we can sell and install a new set for you. We carry major tire brands including Goodyear, Bridgestone, Firestone, Kelly, Michelin, Hankook, and many more. Give us a call or request a quote for tires online and we can get you a quote on all weather or winter tires.

Prepare Your Vehicle for Winter

Posted on October 1st, 2015 | No Comments »

Fall is in the air. The kids are back in school. The leaves are beginning to change colors. The Packers are playing great. What a wonderful time of year!

But as they say on Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming. So, don’t get caught ill-prepared for snowfall and slippery roads.

If your brakes are squeaking or grinding, now is a great time to address the problem.

Have you tested your vehicle’s heating system since Spring? It’s better to do it now than when it’s below 0 degrees outside.

How is your tire tread? If you’re due for a new set of tires, we sell and install all-weather tires from many leading brands.

Back to School Vehicle Checklist

Posted on August 20th, 2015 | No Comments »

It’s the middle of August. That means two things:

Summer is winding down, and kids are heading back to school. Having two kids myself, I know it can be stressful when teenage and college age drivers are motoring around.

Below is a simple vehicle checklist to perform on your own vehicle or with your kids so your vehicle(s) are ready for the road.

Vehicle Checklist

  • Check your vehicle’s oil level
  • Check your brake lights and turn signals
  • Check your tire tread, and check your tire pressure now and as the weather gets colder.
  • Check your battery strength and if there is corrosion on the battery terminals, be sure to clean them.
  • While driving the vehicle, make sure to test the brakes, alignment and heating and cooling.

It can also be helpful to show your kids how to change a tire, including where a spare tire is located, as well as how to use a jack and how to remove and tighten lug nuts.

Battery or Alternator Issues?

Posted on July 31st, 2015 | No Comments »

A dead battery is by far the biggest reason breakdown services get called out.

Here are three common reasons why your battery could fail:

  • Old Age – You will need to replace the battery
  • Lights, radio, etc left on – You will need to recharge the battery
  • Alternator not charging the battery – You will need to have your alternator checked

NAPA Legend BatteryIf you notice corrosion on the battery terminals, be sure to clean them off.

To reduce the risk of this happening to you, you should check your battery every month and in the winter every week. Most new batteries are sealed, however, if you have one that is not you should have the water level checked and topped off.

The multiple computer systems on today’s vehicles require a high quality, heavy amperage load battery.

If your vehicle runs a lot of electrical components, such as DVD players or an enhanced car stereo, we can provide a more powerful battery to suit your needs.
